SPRING-APO Study Mission to Toolbox

Straits Construction Singapore Pte Ltd hosted a study mission trip by SPRING Singapore – APO (Asian Productivity Organization) on 8 November 2016. There were 20 delegates from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Iran, India, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of China, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam and 5 representatives from SPRING Singapore and the APO group visited Straits Construction’s Toolbox Building.

This study mission trip was a multi-country observational study on industrial engineering techniques for productivity improvement in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Mr Anton Moses, Senior Manager (Projects), welcomed all the delegates and gave a brief outline on productivity initiatives taken by Straits Construction. This was followed by Mr Kelvin Chan from APO, the local facilitator for the visit, who introduced all the delegates from the APO.

Speakers from Straits Construction were Mr Raymond Liew, Mr Edmund Leong and Mr Ryan Lim and they presented on the development of Toolbox – An Innovation Lab by Straits Construction, the Building Information Model-Virtual Design and Construction (BIM-VDC) development at Henderson Vue project and the development of Integrated Construction and Precast Hub (ICPH) at Kaki Bukit respectively.

Mr William Lim, Senior Manager (Productivity & Innovation) of SPRING Singapore presented a gift of appreciation to Straits Construction’s Project Directory, Head of Projects, Mr James Ng Robertson. Mr Lim appreciated Straits Construction for the productivity initiatives taken and thanked us for the visit which was an eye-opening experience for the delegates on Straits Construction’s productivity journey.

The delegates also visited the facilities in Toolbox including the interactive engineered timber floor showroom, practical training facilties and a factory tour at SC Ferrotech’s reinforcement factory.
